Importance of Vaccines

Top 10 Reasons to Protect Children Through Vaccination
Vaccines save lives! Vaccination saves the lives of more than 3 million people worldwide each year and prevents millions of others from suffering from diseases and permanent disabilities.
Vaccines work well and have few side effects.
Vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles, mumps, and whooping cough, are infecting U.S. children. Vaccination protects children from the very serious complications of vaccine-preventable diseases. Possible complications include hospitalization, amputation, brain damage, paralysis, meningitis, seizures, deafness, and even death.
Some vaccine-preventable diseases are quite common in other countries and can be brought to the United States by international travelers. Your child, if unvaccinated, could easily get one of these diseases while traveling or from a traveler.
If children aren't vaccinated, they can spread disease to other children who are too young to be vaccinated or whose medical condition prevents them from being vaccinated (for example, leukemia, other forms of cancer, immune system problems). This could result in long-term complications and even death for other children. Because almost all parents vaccinate their children in the United States, we all derive protection from "community immunity." Children are BEST protected if they are vaccinated.
If many parents decided to not vaccinate their children, diseases would return to our community in full force.
Vaccination keeps children healthy, which means they don't have to stay home from day care or school. No one wants their child to be sick and suffering from one of these diseases.
Organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention all strongly support protecting children with recommended vaccinations.
Parents want to do everything possible to make sure their children are healthy and protected from preventable diseases. Vaccination is the best way to do that.
Parents who have lost children to vaccine-preventable diseases want you to vaccinate your children.
